Straw hats can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth. We recommend using plant-based soaps because regular detergents can be toxic to our waterways.
Always let your hat dry naturally. If your hat gets out of shape, you can use steam from a tea kettle to reshape it. Hold the hat in the steam and allow it to soften. You can then reshape your hat to its original shape and then let it cool down before wearing. Always place a hat upside down on its crown if you do not have a hat rack for storage.
Many of our straw hats come with a wire in the brim so you can shape the hat to match your style. With a little practice you can reshape your hat brim easily. Western styles are generally worn with the brim turned up on the sides and Australian style hats look great with a dip in the front and the back.
The S/M was a little bigger than I thought it would be but this seems like a pretty cool hat, hopefully it will stand up to full time field work in the summer!
I absolutely love my new hat. It looks great, is beautifully made and is a pleasure to wear.
I highly recommend this hat. It is well designed, high quality, looks good, and does a great of of keeping the sun off of your head. I particularly like the fact that is made from durable raffia which seems softer than other straws used to make hats making it easier to pack. Raffia also seems cooler in the sun than some of my other panama style hats made out of other straw materials. The chin cord does a good job of keeping the hat on your head in windy conditions. I would recommend getting the reducing strips to make the fit perfect. I treated my hat with Nikwax to make it water repellent but have not yet been caught in the rain. Shipping was very quick. At this price point, this hat is a great value.
